Privacy Policy for Skolefinder

Effective date: 21 August 2026

Skolefinder is an app for finding and comparing Danish primary schools. We built it with respect for your privacy: you need no account, and we do not track you across apps or websites.

This English text is a translation of the authoritative Danish version. In case of any discrepancy, the Danish text prevails.

What data we process

Install id and support code

The first time you open the app, it creates a random install id. It is generated on your device, is not derived from your phone's id (neither the advertising id nor the manufacturer's device id), and is stored locally on the device.

The id is sent along every time the app fetches data from our own server, and it is included in error reports to Sentry. It has one purpose: so that a message about a problem can be connected to the requests and errors it is about. The app has no accounts, so without the id there is nothing to connect to, and we cannot tell which lines in the logs belong to your message.

The first eight characters make up your support code. If you write to us from the app, the code is attached to the message automatically, where you can see it and delete it before sending.

About the id:

The id is stable until you delete the app. We therefore treat the error and operational data it appears in as personal data, even though we cannot see who you are. The legal basis is our legitimate interest (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)) in being able to troubleshoot specific reports.

Crash and error reports

If the app crashes or hits an error, it automatically sends a technical report to Sentry (our error-monitoring tool). A report contains technical information such as:

These reports are used solely to find and fix bugs. We do not use performance tracing, session replay or similar features. Sentry is hosted in the EU (Germany), and reports are deleted automatically after about 90 days (Sentry's default retention).

The legal basis is our legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the app stable and bug-free.

Location

If you grant permission, the app uses your location to find your municipality (kommune) so it can show nearby schools. Your coordinates are sent to our server, which looks up the municipality via Dataforsyningen's (DAWA) address service. The coordinates are not stored in any user profile or database. They may appear briefly in the server's operational logs and — if a lookup fails — in a technical error report. You can decline location access at any time in your phone's settings; the app still works but will not detect your municipality automatically.

Server logs

Our server temporarily keeps standard web-request logs (IP address, app version, device model, operating system, your install id and the requested address) for operations and security. The logs are kept for about seven days and then deleted automatically.

What we do NOT do

Your favorites and settings (such as language and theme) are stored only locally on your device.

In-app purchases

You can support Skolefinder with a single, optional purchase. The purchase is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details — the app only knows whether your store account has made the purchase.

School data

All school data comes from STIL (Styrelsen for It og Læring) via Uddannelsesstatistik.dk. Skolefinder is not affiliated with or endorsed by STIL.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete information about you, and to object to our processing. Because we have no user accounts, the only data that could be linked to you is the error and operational data described above, which carries your install id. If you give us your support code we can find it; without it we cannot, because we have no other way to recognise you. Contact us at info@skolefinder.dk to exercise your rights or ask questions. You may also lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.dk).

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and the version available in the app and online.
